Green Smart Magazine : GreenSmart 2010
'We have now trained 350 people around the country, and have even had people flown in from New Zealand for our training, which was quite extraordinary. Training satisfaction results rate in the high 80s to 90 per cent,' Lyn says. Their involvement in the Green Loans program is just one of ecoMaster's many achievements. At state level, ecoMaster provided a tour for the Victorian Department of Primary Industries and Essential Ser vices Commission to a series of retrofitted homes in the Melbourne area, and also worked with Sustainability Victoria. Lyn was recently elected to the board of the Association of Building Sustainability Assessors and holds a position on the national steering committee that is overseeing the accreditation of the Professional Home Sustainability Assessors course. Locally, 60 homes retrofitted with a 15 per cent energy reduction target are currently under way with Yarra City Council, while home retrofits for aged care individuals are also under way in the City of Banyule. Active in the community, ecoMaster employees have spoken, presented and exhibited at many universities, organisations and events throughout the year, as well as appeared in the media as consultants plus organised open day opportunities for the public and school groups to visit the ecoMaster test home. Now they're growing, and Lyn and Maurice are currently building a large team of their own passionate and like-minded home assessors. For Lyn, it's the opportunity to influence and retrofit every Australian home that will make the ultimate difference to Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. 'Our children and your children deserve a future. And we will shift heaven and earth to ensure they get one,' she says. gs important update As of 22 March 2010, interest-free loans are no longer being offered under the Green Loans program; however householders can still access a free home sustainability assessment by calling 1800 895 076 between 9am and 5pm EST Monday to Friday. greensmart 2010 49 BELOW: ecoMaster has trained more than 350 people from Australia to New Zealand to provide advice in green retrofit solutions to homes. Draught proofing: It's not sexy, but many homeowners are unaware of the impact of draughts on their heating and cooling energy use. Draught proofing can reduce energy consumption by 25 to 50 per cent in your home. Downlights: Homeowners love halogen downlights but there are many energy- efficient solutions on the market in their place, for example LED technology with plug and play solutions and alternatives that fill the space of halogens. Behaviour change: One home sustainability assessor reported a fall in daily energy consumption from 25kW a day to just 7kW just from behavioural change. Simply by adding a visible in-home energy reader, homeowners can see exactly how much they are using and saving. ideas everyone can use 'OUR CHILDREN AND YOUR CHILDREN DESERVE A FUTURE.
