Green Smart Magazine : GreenSmart 2010
welcome Welcome to the seventh edition of greensmart -- the original green building magazine for consumers. Designed to encourage and inspire you to build green by celebrating and showcasing our award-winning GreenSmart homes and developments, we know you won't be disappointed in our 2009 winners. The 2009 HIA GreenSmart Awards captured some fabulous green homes, all of which incorporate the HIA GreenSmart building principles. Those principles are the essential recipe for building green, and have almost become de rigueur in most Australian homes. And with our dwindling resources and the cost of energy and water on the rise it's easy to see why. There's a focus on healthier building practices, resource-efficient products, increased energy and water efficiency, more recycling, less waste from building or renovation processes, and better management of building sites. More and more people are clamouring for cleaner, cheaper energy and healthier, more liveable homes. GreenSmart homes fit the bill, designed as they are to suit everyday families who want to reduce their impact on the environment in their day-to-day lives and enjoy the sustainable and more comfortable alternatives. Ultimately, homeowners are discovering that building green is about how you build, not what you build, and that it doesn't have to be expensive. Now more than a decade old, building the GreenSmart way is even more relevant. Here at HIA we continue to embrace new ways of building green through cutting-edge technologies and new ways to approach climate change. The number of accredited GreenSmart professionals around the country is now 4000 strong and growing, and it's clear that the message is getting out and being heard. Building or renovating is an exciting journey. GreenSmart makes it more so.
