Green Smart Magazine : 2009_new
30 greensmart 2009 It's often said the simple things in life are the best, and when it comes to energy efficiency it doesn't need to be complex. That's the mantra of Darren Evans, who founded Solar Solutions Design 19 years ago. The company picked up the 2008 HIA GreenSmart Award for Energy Efficiency -- their first GreenSmart award. 'Our main aim is to do houses that look normal and sexy, but make them extremely energy efficient,' Darren says. Homeowners Richard and Audrey Potter first contacted Darren about five years ago, to build a new house in the Bayside suburb of Sandringham. Richard was already aligned with Darren's work through his own company Solar Charge, but wanted Darren to design his new house for himself and his wife. 'They wanted something that stays warm in winter, cool in summer and makes a good statement that you can have great efficiency and still look good,' Darren says. The brief for this award-winning residence was for an energy- efficient, environmentally friendly and healthy home. solar focus story > Annie Reid smarthomes
